Here are a few things in news, sports, entertainment and popular culture that we've been talking about.

■ Local baseball phenom Bryce Harper signs a $9.9 million contract with the Washington Nationals. The upside: $9.9 million. The downside: It's with the Nationals.

■ Ricky Gervais reportedly is working on a China-based version of "The Office." Hilarity ensues when the Chinese Dwight Schrute character accidentally pockets a few Post-it notes and is sent to a "re-education" camp.

■ A JetBlue flight attendant becomes a folk hero after cursing out a passenger on the plane's intercom, grabbing a few beers and departing on the plane's emergency slide. Coolest exit since Kurt Russell's in "Escape from L.A."
