Survivor of Arizona shooting in good condition at LV hospital
A 44-year-old woman who survived a weekend shooting that left five people dead in western Arizona was in good condition Tuesday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas. Deborah Nyland called 911 just before midnight Saturday to report a gunman had shot several people at a home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
She pleaded with the dispatcher to hurry and send help and said no one in the home was able to speak.
Lake Havasu police Capt. Richie Sloma said investigators believe Nyland suffered one gunshot wound when 26-year-old Brian Diez opened fire during a celebration at the home of his former girlfriend. Five adults, including Nyland’s husband and daughter, died of their gunshot wounds. Deborah Langstaff, the mother of Diez’s two children, also was slain.
Diez fled to California with his two children after the shooting. He left his kids with his sister before committing suicide outside her home in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
