Driver arrested, children in custody after police find drug

Boulder City police say they found about 5 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested a Phoenix man during a traffic stop on a highway outside Las Vegas.

Boulder City police Sgt. John Glenn said 40-year-old Francisco Javier Moncada was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, and Moncada’s two children, ages 11 and 14, were placed in Clark County Family and Youth Services custody.

Moncada was held at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas on $10,200 bail pending a court appearance today on felony methamphetamine trafficking and fictitious vehicle registration charges.

Glenn estimated the value of the drugs at more than $50,000.

He said the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was stopped on U.S. 93 for an equipment violation, and police later found the drugs in hidden compartments.
