Courting a base that propelled her into Nevada's Republican Senate nominee, Sharron Angle will join the lineup of speakers at a national Tea Party convention scheduled for July 15-17 at the Palazzo Las Vegas, organizers announced today.
Talk show host Laura Ingraham and former CNN anchor and commentator Lou Dobbs are among other speakers at what is being billed as a "unity convention" by the sponsoring Tea Party Nation group.
"President Obama told Americans not to go to Las Vegas so that is exactly where Tea Party Nation will be holding our next event," the group's president Judson Phillips said when the convention was announced earlier this year.
The convention will include training seminars and a "conservative film festival."
Announcing Angle's participation in the convention, Phillips said, “Her dedication to upholding the Constitution while serving in the Nevada State Assembly is something we need more politicians doing.”
The announcement was a bit out of date in one respect. It said, "Though a lifelong Republican, Sharron was frequently at odds with her Assembly and party colleagues." The Associated Press reported this week that Angle switched her party registration to Democrat for at least four years during the 1980s.
