Las Vegas Philharmonic Guild aids Kids to Concert

The Las Vegas Philharmonic Guild had its fall fundraiser to support the Kids to Concert program on Oct. 21 at the Stirling Club, honoring president of the Philharmonic's board of trustees Jeri Crawford and board secretary Pat Fink.

Following the champagne reception's musical interludes by Voltaire Verzosa at the piano and Jonothan Troy playing the clarinet, the Charlie Palmer Group prepared tea for tables of eight.

Sondra Lynch, vice president, presented the silent auction and raffle. Mistress of ceremonies guild president Juliana McRae introduced Dick McGee, Philharmonic associate conductor and chairman of the Kids to Concert program.

Among the 150 guests were Hal Weller, Wendy Plaster, Lucille and Dan Weinberger, Nancy Houssels, Christine Peterson, Marie Saldo, Diane Carlson and Bill Freyd, Mari Landers, Sandra and Jim Frank, Janis Manno, Barbara Robinson, Gracie Sayles and Linda Cassese.

Eight violinists from the Nevada School of the Arts -- directed by Mary Straub with piano accompaniment by Albina Asryan -- entertained Lynn and Richard Richardson, Bruce LaFollette, Toni and Clark Trapp, Malcomb Singer, Gloria Allen, CJ and Art Woolston, Beverly Mykisen, Becky Casey, Anita Meyer, Phillip Varricchio, Amy Wiles, Lia Roberts, Kay Browne, Monica Fuller, Jan Craddock and Toni Carpenter Pattengale.

COUTURE FOR A CURE: The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southern Nevada was the beneficiary of a luncheon and fashion show presented by Saks Fifth Avenue at the Great Hall in the Fashion Show mall on Oct. 29.

Seen participating in the silent auction were Sue Sullivan, Whitney duBoef, Rene Marlon, Gloria Fine, Sue Lowden, Pam Brown, Tibi Ellis, and State Sen. Barbara Cegavske.

Misstresses of ceremony were Tricia Kean and Nina Radetich, both of KTNV-TV, Channel 13.

Special guests were Kristi Holden and Tina Walsh, who play Christine in "Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular." The runway models wore fall ensembles by a number of designers.

The affair raised funds for MDA Summer Camp, support groups and assistance with the purchase and repair of wheelchairs and other devices.

Joining 13-year-old Josh Camperi, MDA's state goodwill ambassador, were Joanne Downey, Dawn Heaney, Lauren Kennedy, Molly Marks, Dina Masterson, Melissa McCabe, Ashlee Miller and Alesha Headd.

At the show's conclusion, Mari Landers, Saks general manager invited all guests to Saks Fifth Avenue for coffee and dessert.
