Las Vegas teenager gets life in prison for fatal stabbing in 2008
A teenager was sentenced to life in prison earlier this week for fatally stabbing another teen in October 2008.
Steven Hogue pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon for the slaying of 16-year-old Richard Martinez. Hogue was also 16 at the time.
Judge Michelle Leavitt on Tuesday sentenced Hogue to life with the possibility of parole after 10 years and a consecutive prison term of 15 years with the possibility of parole after six years because a deadly weapon was used. Hogue was given credit for time served, meaning he could be paroled after 15 years.
Martinez was stabbed near his home near Jones Boulevard and U.S. Highway 95. He died hours later at University Medical Center. Las Vegas police said the stabbing was related to a fight over graffiti.
