New president: UNLV won’t compromise its mission

UNLV President Neal Smatresk this morning said the university won't compromise its mission despite budget cuts.

"We are steadfast in our commitment to our educational mission," he said in his first State of the University address.

"I want to assure all of you we will never back away from our research mission," he said.

Enrollment at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is increasing too, he said.

Smatresk took over as president five weeks ago.
