Here are a few things in news, entertainment and popular culture that we've been talking about lately.

• The 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing is observed. And, pondering the absence of return trips during the past 37 years, the Man in the Moon wonders, "Is it something I said?"

• Las Vegas hosts the national belt sander racing championships. The hardest part of the sport: finding little, tiny guys in overalls to serve as jockeys.

• Gov. Jim Gibbons joins Facebook. And, already, the "What's on your mind?" box on his home page is covered in cobwebs.

• Vandals deface the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign with graffiti. Hey, Mayor, that thumbs thing you were talking about? Never mind what we said back then. Count us in.

• Volunteers comb Mount Charleston, searching for the rare Charleston Ant. Just look at anyplace where we'll be sitting, picnicking or lazing about, and you're sure to find 'em.

• TV news icon Walter Cronkite passes away. That's the way it was -- and, sadly, will never be again.
