The 51s allowed four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and failed to get any offense, losing to the Sacramento River Cats in Pacific Coast League play in West Sacramento, Calif.
Starter Fabio Castro and reliever T.J. Beam combined for 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball for Las Vegas (19-31) before things fell apart. Beam got the River Cats out in order in the seventh, then retired Larry Cobb on a grounder to open the eighth before giving way to Bill Murphy.
Murphy then loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a hit batsman before being pulled for Bryan Bullington, who gave up a two-run double to Matt Carson and a two-run single to Anthony Recker.
