Kingman man gets 8 years in prison for death of toddler

An 8-year prison sentence was imposed Friday for a Kingman man held responsible for the death of his girlfriend’s three-year-old son. Cory Williams, 27, pled guilty to manslaughter for the skull fracture-related death of Trent Stotser last August.

Attorneys and police reports indicated that Williams offered different accounts of how the child with Down Syndrome was fatally injured, the last being that they were playing when Stotser tumbled from Williams’ shoulders onto a tile floor.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen said only Williams knows what really happened, but that the death was the result of reckless conduct involving a child who needed extra care and caution.

Stotser’s mother, Tiffany Stotser, 28, awaits trial for child abuse for allegedly failing to seek medical attention for another injury the boy suffered the day before his skull was fractured.
