UNR outpaces UNLV in donations in 2008

RENO -- The University of Nevada, Reno topped the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in donations in 2008, a report shows.

For the fiscal year that ended June 30, UNR received $46.8 million compared with UNLV's $29 million, according to the annual Voluntary Support of Education survey, released by the Council for Aid to Education.

The report found contributions to colleges and universities rose 6.2 percent nationwide to a record $31.6 billion last year.

John Carothers, executive director of the UNR Foundation, said the lead in contributions over UNLV reflects the cyclical nature of donations.

From 2004 through 2007, UNLV outstripped UNR, with an annual average of about $12 million more than its northern counterpart.

The $46.8 million UNR received marks a $14 million increase from the previous fiscal year, Carothers said.

Student enrollment is 15,804 at UNR and 25,206 at UNLV.
