Olympia Gaming’s Sparks project reportedly on hold

Las Vegas-based Olympia Gaming has put on hold plans for a 1,000-room hotel-casino in Sparks due to the company’s inability to secure financing.

Plans for the Legends Bay Casino at Sparks Marina have been put on hold indefinitely, according to the Northern Nevada Business Weekly.

Officials for the joint venture between Olympia and RED Development said plans for the phased project will also be downsized.

The credit crunch stalled Olympia’s planned $1 billion Southern Highlands Resort late last year.

The company, which is the gaming arm of local developer Garry Goett’s development group, reportedly has been showing off a scaled-down version of the project to residents around the project’s site at Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway.

Olympia, in partnership with Boyd Gaming Corp., is also seeking permission from the city of North Las Vegas to build a hotel-casino to anchor its Park Highlands community.
