LV man convicted in robbery spree

A federal jury convicted a Las Vegas man Wednesday on robbery and firearms charges related to a March crime spree.

Enrique Hurtado, 34, is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court for sentencing in November.

Hurtado was arrested March 17 in robberies at eight banks and businesses during a six-day span. Prosecutors said he threatened cashiers with everything from brass knuckles to a handgun.

The crime spree began March 12 when authorities said Hurtado used a gun to rob the Bank of America at 410 E. Silverado Ranch Boulevard. He repeated the crime three days later at the Opera House Casino in North Las Vegas, where he shot at a cage cashier who attempted to flee.

On March 16, Hurtado performed two heists in an hour, demanding money from a CVS Pharmacy and a 7-Eleven.

A day later, authorities said Hurtado robbed three gas stations and a bank in east Las Vegas within a seven-hour time span before police caught up with him. He was arrested after crashing his car during a police chase.

In addition to being convicted on nine counts of robbery and weapons charges, Hurtado pleaded guilty to unlawfully being in the country. He was deported twice last year.
