Elko mining company lays off 240 workers
Citing concerns over profitability, Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp. has laid off 240 employees at an Elko County mine.
The company has turned its Jerritt Canyon Mine over to a contractor, but plans to keep operating mill and roaster facilities at the site.
As a mid-tier mining company, Yukon-Nevada was unable to mine at a profit in the face of inflation and high costs associated with mining, said Graham Dickson, president and CEO.
Yukon-Nevada purchased the gold mine from Queenstake Resources last year.
