THE LIST: DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week

DVDS

"Resident Evil: Extinction" (R): Milla Jovovich continues to take names and kick zombies in this third chapter of the video-game-inspired movie franchise. There's minimal character development, so if you're new to the story it won't make much sense. Even then it may not, but at least you'll know who's who.

Also out today: "Shoot 'Em Up" (R); "Solstice" (PG-13); and "War" (R).

CDS

Radiohead, "In Rainbows": It was a great experiment for an even better album: Last fall Radiohead released its latest disc, "In Rainbows," in its entirety online and let fans choose what they wanted to pay for it, if anything.

Months later comes the official CD release of the record, so the band's die-hard following can have something tangible to obsess over.

One of the best records of 2007, "In Rainbows" is among the band's most affecting works, an equally meditative, bracing and haunting affair every bit as multihued as its title suggests.

BOOKS

"Bleeding Kansas" by Sara Paretsky: The author of the V.I. Warshawski detective series tackles issues such as prejudices and religious freedom in this coming-of-age novel set during the first Gulf war.

Also hitting shelves: "How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 Pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better" by Charla Krupp; "In Defense of Food: The Myth of Nutrition and the Pleasures of Eating" by Michael Pollan; "People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks; "The Shooters (Presidential Agent Series No. 4)" by W.E.B. Griffin; "The Essential Chomsky" by Noam Chomsky; "Age of Miracles" by Marianne Williamson; and "The 12 Second Sequence: Shrink Your Waist in 2 Weeks!" by Jorge Cruise.
