Woman, 81, missing from mobile home
An 81-year-old woman went missing Thursday morning, and police suspect she was taken from her home.
Opal Parsons was last seen by her daughter, Carol Holt, at 5 a.m. in her bed before Holt left for work.
When Holt returned home at 2 p.m., she said the front door was open to the mobile home the two share near East Charleston and North Nellis boulevards.
Nothing was missing from the residence except Parsons and her purse, said Las Vegas police detective Dan Holley.
Parsons' van was in the driveway.
The van keys and the key she used to lock the door behind her when she left were inside the home, Holley said
Holley, who has been with the department for 24 years, doubts that Parson left her residence willingly.
"You can judge a person by their past, and if she would have left on her own will, she would have called by now," said Holley.
He said Parsons was in good mental and physical health.
Holt said her mother did crossword puzzles daily, organized greeters at church and went dancing every weekend.
"She was very sharp mentally," said Holt. "She drove her friends around. They depended on her."
Parsons' identification was found Friday on the floor of Sam's Town.
Her ATM card was used at the casino, which is about 3 1/2 miles south of her home.
Authorities do not believe Parsons was the one who used the debit card.
Holley has viewed surveillance videos at the casino and is waiting to receive copies so he and his team of investigators can look more thoroughly at the tapes.
"It doesn't look good at this point," said Holt, who has lived with her mother for two years.
Parsons went missing sometime around 10 a.m., authorities believe.
Holt said messages were left on the family's answering machine around 10:30 a.m. from a friend Parsons was supposed to pick up for a luncheon.
The caller was inquiring where she was.
"She was always on time; and if she wasn't going to be home when I got home, she would leave a note telling me where she went," Holt said.
"There was no note. That's not at all like my mother."
Anyone with information about Parsons' whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
