EMT dies of heart attack after responding to daughter’s car accident

A New Jersey EMT died after responding to a car crash Saturday night involving his 19-year-old daughter.

According to the Washington Post, when emergency responders were called to a two-car crash, Capt. Eskil “Scott” Danielson answered the call and headed to the scene with his fellow emergency medical technicians.

Around that same time, his daughter Alycia called to tell him she had been involved in an accident. After arriving to the scene and tending to his daughter, Danielson sat alongside her as they waited on an ambulance to transport her to the hospital.

According to his family, Danielson followed Alycia's ambulance to Newton Medical Center and "collapsed," they said. He had gone into cardiac arrest.

Doctors operated on Danielson for four hours, first at Newton Medical Center and then at Morristown Medical Center, where he later died. Skip Danielson said his son didn't handle Alycia's accident any “different than any other on a call that involves a family member.”

“It’s stressful enough when you don’t know the person,” he said, “but it raises the stress level when it’s family.”

Alycia Danielson suffered minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.
