Bid to have horses removed from Newton ranch denied

Entertainer Wayne Newton will get to keep his prized herd of Arabian horses on his Casa de Shenandoah ranch for an indefinite time.
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Bruce Markell denied a request by CSD LLC, which bought the property with the intent of turning it into a theme park based on Newton's career, to remove the 38 horses. Grant Lyon, CSD's chief restructuring officer, raised concerns that horses' continued presence on-site created liability issues and could deter potential buyers of the estate.
Besides technical issues related to bankruptcy law working against CSD, Markell found that it was unclear how much room the horses were allowed on the 38-acre estate. However, he let CSD to file another eviction action in the future.Contact reporter Tim O'Reiley at
