News conference set for Global Gaming Expo event changes

The American Gaming Association will hold a news conference at the Venetian on Tuesday to “unveil plans for significant changes to Global Gaming Expo and its family of events.

Obviously, the biggest change will be moving the 2011 G2E from its long-time home at the Las Vegas Convention Center to the Sands Expo Center.

The 10-year-old G2E, which is produced by the Washington D.C.-based American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions, is the casino industry’s largest annual trade show and conference.

Slot machine manufacturers and other gambling equipment makers unveil their newest products during G2E.

American Gaming Association President Frank Fahrenkopf Jr., and Las Vegas Corp. President Michael Leven are expected to make the announcement, along with Reed Exhibitions Senior Vice President Courtney Muller and Bally Technologies Chief Executive Officer Richard Haddrill, who is the vice chairman of the gaming association’s board.

The switch to the Sands Expo is a blow to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, which has been at odds with Las Vegas Sands officials for several years.

The 2010 G2E is scheduled for Nov. 15-18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
