Cantor Gaming to operate race-sports book at Cosmopolitan

Cantor Gaming continues to expand its operations in Las Vegas, signing its second deal this month to build and operate a race and sports book at an upscale hotel.
The company on Friday announced it had entered a partnership with the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to run the hotel's race and sports book. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The facility is expected to open in the first quarter of 2011, pending regulatory approval. The $3.9 billion Cosmopolitan is scheduled to open Dec. 15.
"With cutting-edge technology ... Cantor Gaming will give our guests the ultimate race and sports book experience," said John Unwin, chief executive officer of the Cosmopolitan.
The location will be Cantor's fourth in the region. The company owns and operates a Cantor Race and Sports Book at M Resort and the Tropicana. On Nov. 1, Cantor announced it would build and operate the Hard Rock Hotel's sports book, which is scheduled to open in spring 2011.
Unwin said the sports book at the Cosmopolitan would feature Cantor's proprietary In-Running wagering technology, which allows customers to place wagers on sporting events while they are being played.
Cantor, a subsidiary of financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald L.P., also will install its mobile gaming system, eDeck, the company said in a statement.
The eDeck, which is about the size of an iPad, is a touchscreen device that can be used to wager on sports or Cantor's proprietary games, including XtraOdds Black Jack, from public areas of the Cosmopolitan.
Lee Amaitis, president and CEO of Cantor Gaming, said technology, mobile in particular, is key to attracting a new generation of gamblers to Las Vegas.
"I have seen first-hand how technology transformed the financial sector, increasing volumes and therefore revenues," Amaitis said. "We want to replicate this model in Las Vegas."
