Casino owner’s wife granted order to protect assets

The wife of casino owner and Detroit businessman Don Barden has received a temporary restraining order protecting the couple's assets while she seeks to have him declared incompetent in the management of their finances.

The Detroit News reported that a judge issued the order Friday.

The Detroit Free Press reported earlier that Bella Marshall says in court papers that her 67-year-old husband is battling cancer. She also is seeking a legal separation.

Friend and spokeswoman Darci McConnell told both newspapers that Barden is "physically and mentally capable of managing his affairs."

Barden owns Majestic Star Casino LLC, which is involved in bankruptcy proceedings. The Las Vegas-based company has two casinos and hotel along Lake Michigan in Gary, Ind.; a casino-hotel in Tunica County, Miss.; and a casino in Black Hawk, Colo.
