Dust-up on the Strip: Demolition of parking structure marks new beginning
The old Flamingo parking garage behind O'Sheas was demolished overnight, making way for Project Linq.
In preparation for the implosion of the seven-story parking garage, Clark County closed several streets early Tuesday, including portions of the Strip.
Crews planned to reopen the roads at 6 a.m. Tuesday, but the timing depends on how long it takes for the dust from the parking garage to settle and debris to be cleaned up.
O'Sheas, a 22,000-square-foot standalone casino with no hotel rooms, opened in 1989. It was closed and the parking structure was demolished as part of construction for the $550 million Project Linq. The retail, dining and entertainment development, being built by Caesars Entertainment Corp., is anchored by a 550-foot observation wheel and is expected to open in 2013.
Tuesday morning's demolition and the closing of O'Sheas are the most public signs that Project Linq, which is modeled after The Grove in Southern California, is moving forward.
A scaled-down version of O'Sheas will become part of Project Linq.
