Markling stepping down from Gaming Control Board position
The chief of the Gaming Control Board’s enforcement division is retiring at the end of August after more than two decades with the state agency.
Jerry Markling has been the enforcement division chief since July 2005 and spent more than 22 years with the control board. He said “a new opportunity in the (gaming) industry” presented itself and it was time make a change after 43 years of government service.
Prior to joining the Gaming Control Board, Markling spent more than 20 years with the Provo, Utah, police department, retiring as a captain.
Gaming Control Board Chairman A.G. Burnett said a new enforcement chief would be named prior to Markling’s departure.
“He’s been an incredible asset to the board and a trusted colleague of mine,” Burnett said. “I have relied on his opinion and advice regarding complicated criminal and gaming regulatory matters, just as four previous chairmen did.”
Markling said he enjoyed the transition from traditional police work to issues involving a regulated casino industry. He began as an agent in the division and worked his way up to the chief’s position.
