Commercial real estate developers go back on the bus

A trade group that represents commercial real estate developers is bringing back a big program it cut during the recession.

NAIOP Southern Nevada has scheduled its first bus tour of local properties since the recession. The tour, set for Oct. 8, will have a "Back to the Future" theme to celebrate the tour's return and the future of local commercial real estate.

NAIOP called the tour's return a sign of growth in the industry and in the traded group itself. Membership is back up to nearly 400 members, up from 240 in the downturn, though still about half of its pre-recession peak.

The tour will start at the Rio Hotel and run about four hours. The cost is $75 for NAIOP members and $95 for nonmembers. The price includes a buffet lunch, drink ticket and prizes.

NAIOP also plans to pair UNLV real estate students with a professional mentor who will explain the industry during the tour.
