Engineering company gains more separation in court fight
The engineering company Converse Consultants has gained more separation in the court fight over the construction of the Harmon tower at CityCenter.
MGM Resorts International retained Las Vegas-based Converse to inspect the inspect the incorrectly installed rebars and link beams in what was once planned as a hotel. General contractor Perini Building Co. has filed complaints against two subcontractors, Century Steel Inc. and Pacific Coast Steel, because of defects in their work, leading the subcontractors to file their own complaint against Converse, alleging a bad inspection.
Clark County District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez dismissed the main claims against Converse last year, but left it facing fraud claims.
On Wednesday, the Nevada Supreme Court overturned Gonzalez on the fraud aspect. In its ruling, the court said that the subcontractors had not shown enough of a fraud case to allow the subcontractors to engage in discovery, which would force Converse executives to testify and produce documents.
Converse attorney Mark Edwards did not return calls seeking comment.
