Gaming Control Board meets with just two members

The Gaming Control Board conducted its October meeting with just two members Wednesday, following the resignation of Chairman Mark Lipparelli, which took effect last week.

Board members A.G. Burnett and Shawn Reid, who were appointed to the three-person panel in January 2011, oversaw the meeting. A coin flip determined Reid would serve as acting chairman for the nonrestricted agenda while Burnett would handle the duties for board's restricted agenda.

"We have a quorum," Reid said.

A spokeswoman for Gov. Brian Sandoval said he was still evaluating a list of names for the open position. Lipparelli, whose term was expiring at the end of the year, said he resigned early to give the new chairman time to settle into the office before the 2013 Legislative session.

Gaming observers speculated that Sandoval would appoint either Burnett or Reid as chairman and appoint a new board member.
