GLVAR selects new chief executive officer

One of the state’s largest trade groups has a new leader.

The 11,500-member Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors announced Monday that it has named Michele Caprio chief executive officer.

Caprio comes to the association from Rhode Island, where she was a Realtor for 17 years. Caprio served as president of the Greater Providence Board of Realtors in 2003, and as president of the Rhode Island Association of Realtors in 2006. She transitioned from working as a Realtor to running associations in 2007. Most recently, she was CEO of three Rhode Island industry associations — the Greater Providence Board of Realtors, the Rhode Island Commercial and Appraisal Board of Realtors and the Northern Rhode Island Board of Realtors.

The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors conducted a nationwide search to find a new CEO to replace Nelson Janes, who retired Friday after three years at the group’s helm. Current association President Keith Lynam and immediate past President Heidi Kasama led the search effort.

Caprio starts Feb. 1. Wendy DiVecchio, the association’s director of operations, will oversee the group’s daily functions until Caprio takes over.
