Judge slates hearing date
District Judge Timothy Williams on Thursday set a Jan. 30 date for a fairness hearing on a proposed $90 million settlement in a construction-defect case involving alleged faulty plumbing fixtures in some 36,000 homes around Las Vegas Valley.
The judge wants a matrix of all discovery proceedings, or evidence collected from depositions of expert witnesses, by Tuesday and said a stay on further discovery is still in effect pending his orders.
Classic Plumbing sued Canadian-based IPEX Inc. in 2004 alleging that the company's Kitec brand brass plumbing fittings caused a chemical reaction with polyurethene tubing, resulting in corrosion, leaks and pipes bursting.
The case is scheduled to go to trial in May.
