Juice bar opens in downtown Vegas

Grass Roots juice bar opened on June 18 at the former John E. Carson building, serving up made-to-order nutrient-dense, whole food juices, smoothies, soups, whole food bowls and ice creams.

Owners Shane Stuart and Nichole Hester, in conjunction with the Downtown Project, opened their sustainable and environmentally conscious business in an effort to provide healthy alternatives for the community.

The organic produce is sourced from both local and regional farms and local farmers markets, such as Downtown 3rd Farmers Market. The menu also features seasonal selections as well as grab-and-go offerings including an assortment of vegan, dairy free and soy and gluten-free packaged salads, wraps and desserts from Raw Makery.

Prices range from $4.95 for ice cream to $11.95 for whole food bowls.

Grass Roots, at 124 S. Sixth St., Unit 160, will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Sin City Brewing Co. opened its first Strip-front location at Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard South, offering craft beer at the heart of the Strip.

The 774-square-foot walk-in bar features Las Vegas’ own craft beer on tap in six signature styles, premium cocktails as well as original Sin City merchandise such as T-shirts, shorts and official suds glassware.

The Harmon destination marks Sin City’s third bar, joining its other locations at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian.

On June 22, the Bavarian Castle German Restaurant held a grand opening celebration at its location at 10890 S. Eastern Ave. in Henderson.

Owners Rainer and Ulrike Doehler served samples of Schnitzel with pepper sauce, meatballs, Currywurst, Sauerkraut, and potato salad, a 100-year-old family recipe, alongside an extensive German beers and wine selection.

The Bavarian Castle officially opened its doors June 24 and is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Resnicks Grocery, an artisanal food shop and eatery in downtown Las Vegas, provides regular delivery, catering services and gift baskets for corporate accounts.

The gourmet grocery, at 900 Las Vegas Blvd. South, offers a made-to-order lunch menu, including paninis, sandwiches and salads. Businesses can call in their daily order and process payment on a monthly basis via credit card.

Corporate clients can also create specialty gift baskets with Italian specialty foods from Artisanal Foods, sweet chocolate covered pretzel treats from Mom’s Originals, artisan beers and wines from Las Vegas-based Bevi Beverage, as well as flowers and specialty gifts from downtown neighbor, Gaia Flowers.

You need a scorecard to keep up with those sports teams and events in Las Vegas as the Wranglers, an independent team in the ECHL, will miss the 2014-15 season because they do not have a home arena.

World Team Tennis canceled a team for Las Vegas, while promoters of the Party Rock Open tennis tournament are not returning to the Darling Tennis Center this year. However, Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil, who bought into the Arena Football League’s Jacksonville Sharks, received the green light from AFL officials to create a new arena football team in Las Vegas for the 2015 season.

And the Las Vegas Legends, an indoor soccer team, have joined the Major Arena Soccer League as the league’s 24th team.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air is expecting to close deals by the end of July that would result in the airline owning 32 Airbus twin-engine jets by the end of 2018.

The company has agreed to purchase 14 177-passenger A320 jets and will buy two 156-passenger A319s it already leases.

In a separate deal, Allegiant will purchase one A319 and one A320 in 2015 and 2016.

Including deals previously announced, the airline would own 22 A319s and 10 A320s by the end of 2018, Allegiant President Andrew Levy said.
