Las Vegas visitor count up 7 percent in June

The year-over-year visitor count rose 7 percent in June, continuing the rebound that began last year.

According to the monthly report by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 3.3 million visitors came to town, helping to push up several other industry benchmarks. With the number of hotel rooms flat, total occupancy went up 6.4 percentage points to 88.5 percent, while the average rate gained 13 percent to $101.15 a night.

The motel segment, often forgotten in the shadows of the Strip, saw its occupancy soar 21 points to 64.1 percent. The small, nongaming properties generally benefit from the Strip overflow when major events such as the Electric Daisy Carnival come to town.

During the first half of the year, the 19.5 million visitors was 5.1 percent higher than a year ago.
