Mothballed Kingman medical facility to be reopened

The Kingman Regional Medical Center plans to reopen the hospital it purchased and mothballed in east Kingman in October 2011.

The company spent $31 million to acquire the Hualapai Mountain Medical facility that MedCath Corp. spent more than $70 million to build and open in October 2009.

Chief Operating Officer Ryan Kennedy said the medical center is petitioning the Arizona Department of Health Services to relocate its acute inpatient rehab unit to occupy about 7,000 square feet of the dormant Hualapai Mountain campus by April.

Kennedy said phase two of the project will see the Hualapai Mountain campus emergency department open in fall 2013, generating at least two dozen new jobs and providing the greater Kingman community two facilities offering emergency medical care.

The five-year development plan for the Hualapai Mountain campus includes inpatient care for obstetric, pediatric and orthopedic services.
