Cenntro Motor, a New Jersey-based manufacturer of all-electric utility vehicles, is planning a $20.1 million, 150,000-square-foot production facility, parts warehouse and distribution center in Sparks.
The company is appearing before the Governor’s Office of Economic Development on Thursday for consideration of additional incentives to move its corporate headquarters to Nevada.
The company won approval of $1.2 million in sales tax abatements and modified business tax deferrals in May and is now seeking an additional $1.2 million in property tax deferrals and training grants.
Cenntro currently has facilities in Freehold, N.J., and Morgan Hill, Calif., and considered moving its headquarters to cities in Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama and Virginia in addition to Sparks.
The company announced in February that it plans to manufacture its Kombi EV vehicle, which has a range of 50 miles and can haul 800 pounds of materials.
Marianne McInerney, executive vice president of Cenntro, said in a letter to economic development office that the company plans to move to Northern Nevada in July and would begin production of its vehicles by the end of the third quarter. The company expects to produce 1,650 vehicles by the end of the year and 35,000 a year by 2018.
McInerney said the vehicle is ideal for small processing facilities, farms, solar production facilities, resorts and planned communities.
