NV Energy, its foundation donate $5.1 million to nonprofits
Local power utility NV Energy and its NV Energy Foundation donated more than $5.1 million to support nearly 500 nonprofits statewide, including 260 groups in Southern Nevada.
The contributions were funded by the company and weren’t recovered in rates.
The utility focuses its giving on public education, protection of the environment, youth development, arts, multicultural outreach and health and human services. Local groups that received funding in 2014 included the I Have A Dream Foundation, Communities in Schools Nevada, Red Rock Search and Rescue and Nevada Veterans Foundation. Beyond Las Vegas, NV Energy and its foundation also supported the Great Basin National Park Foundation, Northeastern Nevada Museum and the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.
On top of the funding, NV Energy employees have donated more than 60,000 volunteer hours in the last two years to causes statewide.
“NV Energy’s commitment to our community is what sets us apart in Nevada,” said Tony Sanchez, senior vice president of government and community strategy for NV Energy. “Our company and our employees take pride in supporting the many causes and organizations that make a positive difference in our state.”
