Phone system up and running at Zappos

Big local Internet retailer Zappos.com had its phone system up and running again Friday for the first time in four days.

The Henderson company's self-imposed phone blackout followed the Sunday hacking of its Kentucky-based server. Names, email addresses, phone numbers and the last four digits of credit card numbers of about 24 million customers were exposed.

Zappos executives shut down phones Monday so customer-service representatives could handle customer emails about the security breach.

A Zappos publicist said Friday that managers were watching phone service closely to ensure the retailer could accommodate the number of calls coming in.

"Right now, everything's going well. As they continue to monitor it, things will continue to get back to normal. But it's a new normal," spokeswoman Diane Coffee said.
