Sandoval taps Michon Martin for Nevada Athletic Commission

Gov. Brian Sandoval appointed Resorts World Las Vegas general counsel Michon Martin to the Nevada State Athletic Commission Friday, effective immediately.

Martin will fill the vacancy created with the resignation of Bill Brady for a term ending Oct. 31, 2016, officials said in a statement.

"Michon is incredibly smart, well-reasoned, and tough which are all qualities found in effective and respected commissioners. I am confident that she will be a respected addition to the Nevada State Athletic Commission," Sandoval said in the statement. "In order to remain a top global destination in this competitive industry, we must demand the highest standards of excellence in order to produce a stable and fair environment that provides athletes, fans and stakeholders the utmost confidence."

Martin currently serves as the general counsel and senior vice president of public affairs and deputy general counsel for the planned $4 billion Strip resort.

Martin previously served as the chief counsel for Sandoval, where she served as the governor's legal adviser and managed regulatory, transportation, resources, and federal agency issues.

Prior to joining the Governor's Office, Martin served as the chief deputy attorney general with the Nevada Attorney General's Office, where she managed the litigation division and served as the lead counsel in nationwide litigation.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve my state on the Nevada State Athletic Commission," Martin said in the statement. "I would like to thank Governor Sandoval for entrusting me with this responsibility and I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners."
