Upscale elder care housing projects that will be managed by Washington state-based Milestone Retirement Communities are unfolding separately in two northwest Arizona communities. A $20 million facility will open in August in Kingman while construction is just getting underway for a similar development in Bullhead City, 40 miles to the west.

Dignitaries and project officials are breaking ground Thursday morning for the $18-million Joshua Springs assisted living facility in the Brookfield Communities’ Fox Creek master-planned development in Bullhead City. The 95,300-square-foot facility will feature 74 assisted living apartments and 30 other apartments specifically built for memory care patients.

Joe Jedlowski, vice president of operations for Milestone, said the Kingman and Bullhead City projects are nearly identical, incorporating lifestyle enhancing amenities such as a bistro, salon, game room, theater and a library. It is anticipated that Joshua Springs will open next summer, employing about 50 people, while the White Cliffs Senior Living facility in Kingman will provide 70 or more full time jobs.

Milestone manages 28 other senior housing facilities in various states.

Brookfield Communities is also developing The Ridge neighborhood at Fox Creek in Bullhead City. Located across the Colorado River from Laughlin, The Ridge at Fox Creek will feature a mix of residential architectural styles, a community clubhouse, swimming pool, lounge and other built-in recreational amenities.
