Bike rider dies after being hit by vehicle in Las Vegas

A 48-year-old man riding a bike died Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a car on Charleston Boulevard near Pecos Road, Las Vegas police said.

The man's identity was not released.

Police said at 12:47 p.m. the Las Vegas man was riding a Huffy mountain bike crossing Charleston from north to south at the intersection of Pecos when he failed to yield the right of way from a posted stop sign and rode directly in front of the car.

Police said 28-year-old Salvador Andrade, from Las Vegas, driving a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis west on Charleston, was unable to avoid colliding with the biker, who died at the scene.

Andrade sustained minor injuries, police said.

Tuesday's crash marked the 18th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police in 2013.
