Group again looks to Supreme Court to save dog that killed Henderson child
A New York rescue group trying to save a dog that killed a toddler from euthanasia is turning to the Nevada Supreme Court again.
The Lexus Project Inc. filed an emergency request Friday seeking two weeks to appeal a lower court ruling that granted Henderson city officials the go-ahead to put the dog named Onion down.
The state high court didn't respond but late Friday granted a stay that prevents animal control officials from killing Onion until the justices take further action.
The rescue group wants to send the 120-pound mastiff-Rhodesian mixed breed to a sanctuary in Colorado.
Clark County District Court Judge Joanna Kishner ruled on Thursday that the dog's owner legally gave the dog up after it killed her grandson April 27.
Lexus Project lacks legal standing to intervene, Kishner ruled.
