Authorities in northwest Arizona are trying to determine why a Lake Havasu City man shot and killed himself during a weekend incident just two miles from the California border.
Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Trish Carter said a Ford Mustang driven by David Michael Jones, 47, was targeted for a traffic stop Friday. The car came to a stop after a non-injury accident on Interstate 40, she said.
Jones was armed and made deadly threats toward officers who encountered him at about 10:00 p.m., Carter said. Efforts to negotiate his surrender failed and Jones shot and killed himself inside his vehicle about 1:00 a.m. Saturday, she said. No one else was in the Mustang.
