Las Vegas police arrest man in Tuesday homicide on Margo Drive

A Las Vegas police officer driving to the scene of a Tuesday morning homicide may have helped solve the crime when he spotted a blood-covered man in the neighborhood.

David J. Magyar, 62, was arrested and booked on one count of murder with a deadly weapon in the slaying at 5130 Margo Drive, near Harmon Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

A man visiting a friend at the home called police at about 8:45 a.m. after finding a bloody body lying in a courtyard in front of the house, according to a police report. The body appeared to be that of Chukwuma "Ike" Ogqurike, but the coroner's office had not identified him, the report said. The man appeared to have been beaten to death with a brick.

The visitor also saw another man walking away from the home carrying grocery bags, the report said.

On his way to the scene, officer Mike Henry saw Magyar sitting next to a house down the street. Magyar had dried blood on his face, hands and neck, and he was carrying grocery bags with bloody clothes, shoes and landscaping bricks inside, the report said.

Magyar seemed unaware of the blood on him, the report said.

He also had scrapes on his face and right arm and a possible bite mark on his right thigh, according to the report. He told police he had lived at the house for six months, then asked for a lawyer, the report said.

Two roommates at the house told police they lived with Magyar and Ogqurike and saw no signs of trouble when they left the house earlier that morning, the report said.
