Las Vegas woman sentenced in death of woman, 95

A Las Vegas woman was sentenced Thursday to 10 to 25 years in prison for mugging a 95-year-old woman, which resulted in injuries leading to her death.

Teresa Meamber, 31, pleaded guilty in March to voluntary manslaughter and robbery for the death of Bertha Meier.

Authorities said Meamber and co-defendant Kierstie Manning attempted to rob Meier the morning of July 26, 2010, outside a Smith's supermarket near Desert Inn Road and Decatur Boulevard to get money to bail Manning's boyfriend out of jail.

As the two women drove through the Smith's parking lot, Manning grabbed Meier's purse, Las Vegas police said.

But Meier wouldn't let go, and she was dragged by the vehicle as Manning and Meamber tried to flee, police said. The incident was captured by the supermarket's parking lot surveillance cameras.

Meier's hip was shattered in the attack. She died about three weeks later from her injuries.

Manning pleaded guilty in March to voluntary manslaughter, conspiracy to commit robbery and accessory to robbery. Her sentencing is set for June 19 before District Judge Valerie Adair.
