Man arrested in Las Vegas was wanted in California

A 21-year-old man sought in the attempted murder of a convenience store clerk in California was arrested in Las Vegas, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.

Justin Michael Brooks was arrested Tuesday by the Criminal Apprehension Team, a federal task force composed of officers with the FBI and the Las Vegas and Henderson police departments.

Brooks was wanted by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Los Angeles police allege that Brooks entered a convenience store in Hollywood at 8:20 a.m. Monday and pulled a revolver on the clerk. When the clerk tried to run, Brooks shot him, police said.

Police said the bullet passed through the victim's arm into his chest. He was hospitalized in critical condition.

Brooks fled the scene, police said, but the clerk and a witness recognized him as someone from the neighborhood.

Los Angeles police said Brooks was seen wearing a tan jacket, white or blue T-shirt, black shoes and a black hat with the letter P emblazoned on its front.

Brooks was arrested at an apartment near Twain Avenue and Paradise Road. On a follow-up search warrant, officers found a hat with the letter P on it and a revolver.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Brooks was being held at the Clark County Detention Center pending extradition to Los Angeles.
