Utah man faces charges in collision that injured police officer

A man from Utah could face multiple charges after causing a collision that injured a Las Vegas police officer Saturday night, police said Monday.

Jack Bradford, 45, of Washington, Utah, was trying to turn into the Dotty's Casino parking lot, near the southeast corner of Lake Mead Boulevard and Simmons Street shortly after 8 p.m. when his Ford Ranger pulled in front of a marked police motorcycle driven by 27-year-old officer Michael Contreras.

Contreras, who has been with the department since 2007, was thrown from his motorcycle.

He was taken to University Medical Center with a broken wrist and head injuries.

Bradford failed a sobriety test at the site of the crash. He was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Bradford faces a recommended felony charge of driving under the influence with substantial bodily harm.

Police are recommending charges also for failure to yield to oncoming traffic, failure to obey a red light, lack of insurance, vehicle registration violation and a canceled or suspended driver's license.
