Driver arrested for DUI in fatal moped crash

A man was arrested on DUI charges after a fatal moped crash Sunday night in North Las Vegas, according to police.

About 9 p.m., officers responded to the 3300 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard near Allen Lane in response to a crash. A body and a moped were reported in the road.

Officers found a man in the travel lane. Medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said. He appeared to have been riding a moped when he was involved in a crash.

Police said a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe and the moped were traveling on West Lake Mead when the crash happened. The Tahoe fled the scene, police said.

A witness followed the Tahoe and directed officers to a nearby Walmart, police said. Officers found the vehicle and the driver, Christian Potter, 20, was arrested after a short struggle.

Potter was booked into the Las Vegas jail on charges including DUI resulting in death, hit and run injury/death, duty to stop at an accident with death and failure to render aid at the scene of an accident.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identity of the deceased once his family has been notified.

Anyone with additional information regarding this case is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
