Las Vegas tax preparer indicted for false items on returns

A Las Vegas woman was indicted for including false items on her clients’ tax returns, the Internal Revenue Service said.

Ofelia Ronquillo prepared income tax returns through a business known as A.R. Financial LLC and later AJRC Tax Services.

The indictment alleges she fraudulently claimed charitable contributions, education expenses and unreimbursed employee expenses between 2010 and 2011 so her clients could claim bigger refunds.

People should be careful about who they choose to prepare their tax returns, Special Agent in Charge Tara Sullivan of the Las Vegas office of the IRS criminal investigations unit said in a statement Wednesday.

Ronquillo could face up to three years in prison for each count, as well as probation, restitution and monetary penalties, the IRS said.
