Man armed with knives surrenders to police after five-hour barricade

A barricade incident in the southwest valley Friday afternoon ended peacefully after a man surrendered to Las Vegas police later in the evening.

Police responded to a call of a man chasing people with a knife around 1:40 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 5400 block of West Tropicana Avenue near South Lindell Road, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Jesse Roybal said.

Upon arrival, officers noticed the man had barricaded himself inside of an apartment where he began to break windows and throw items out of the apartment, Metro Lt. Timothy Hatchett said. The SWAT team and negotiators were on the scene, and the man surrendered to officers around 7 p.m.
