Opportunity Village vandalized twice, items stolen

The Opportunity Village main campus at 6300 W. Oakey Blvd, near the College of Southern Nevada campus at Charleston Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive, was vandalized and burglarized last night for the second time in about a week.

Police officer to stand trial in deadly pursuit

A Las Vegas police officer will stand trial for charges related to a May police pursuit that left one person dead and another injured. Aron Carpenter faces one count each of felony reckless driving and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for his role in the pursuit that ended with the death of 26-year-old Ivan Carrillo.

Suspect pleads guilty in drug cartel kidnapping

Adolph Vargas, one of five defendants indicted in the 2008 kidnapping of 6-year-old Cole Puffinburger, pleaded guilty to drug and money laundering charges Tuesday in federal court in Las Vegas. Four other defendants, including two men charged with abducting the boy from his home over a drug deal gone bad, are to stand trial next week.
