Health district offers free seasonal flu shots

Good news on the flu vaccine front -- the Southern Nevada Health District will offer free seasonal flu vaccinations beginning Monday.

According to health district spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore, federal health officials notified the health district Friday that the district would receive "additional federal funds to continue activities related to its response to the H1N1 Pandemic, including administering flu shots."

The health district had planned to charge $32 for the flu shot and $43 for the inhaled flu vaccine.

Insured clients will be asked for their insurance information for billing purposes only.

"We're excited that this removes all barriers for people to get a flu shot," Sizemore said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently recommended that anyone over the age of 6 months old should receive an annual flu shot.

Sizemore said the price for the new high-dose flu shot for people 65 and older will remain at $50. A vaccination against pneumonia will cost clients $64.
