St. Rose Dominican Hospitals program receives Gold Seal

St. Rose Dominican Hospitals-San Martín Campus earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for its headache program -- the only headache program in the country certified by commission -- and recognition as a primary stroke center. The San Martín Campus earned both distinctions after The Joint Commission conducted on-site reviews in October.

St. Rose said it a statement that in certifying the headache program, the commission evaluated clinical programs and addressed three core areas: compliance with consensus-based national standards, effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.

To receive the primary stroke center designation, a stroke program must educate and train physicians and nursing staff in stroke care and put processes in place for delivering clinical care developed by physician and nursing experts in the field; this includes being prepared to give the clot-busting medication, t-PA. The San Martín Campus joins the Siena Campus as a primary stroke center. The Siena Campus received the designation August 2010.

"We are proud that our San Martín Campus has achieved these two very important distinctions," said Rod Davis, president and CEO of St. Rose Dominican Hospitals and senior vice president of operations, CHW Nevada.
