HOME BOUND HEALTHCARE TO PROVIDE FLU VACCINES

Home Bound Healthcare Nevada of Las Vegas plans to provide flu vaccines in people’s homes for those older than 65 and for those younger than 65 who have a disability that makes it difficult for them to leave home, at no out-of-pocket expense for those with Medicare coverage. The cost without coverage is $25.

SUMMERLIN HOSPITAL PARTNERING WITH SALT LAKE CITY FACILITY FOR PEDIATRIC PATIENT CARE

Summerlin Hospital Medical Center and Primary Children’s Hospital of Salt Lake City have entered into a collaborative partnership to enhance the quality of care and service provided to pediatric patients in Southern Nevada. Key advantages of the affiliation include: enhanced access to advanced tertiary/quaternary services not provided in Southern Nevada; access to more specialists, either in-person or via telemedicine consultations; access to new treatment protocols for pediatric patients; integration of electronic medical records, offering physicians a clearer view of the pediatric patients’ overall medical situation; improved and more coordinated process to easily transfer pediatric patients to Primary Children’s Hospital for advanced medical care and return to Las Vegas for ongoing treatment or monitoring; enhanced coordination of care between multiple hospitals and physicians; ability to care for Primary Children’s Hospital patients who may be traveling to Las Vegas; access to continuing medical education for Summerlin Hospital physicians and nursing staff; and access to advanced pediatric medicine research.

The Children’s Medical Center at Summerlin Hospital, 657 N. Town Center Drive, is a specialized pediatric program housed within Summerlin Hospital, a 454-bed tertiary care facility. Primary Children’s Hospital is a free-standing children’s hospital in Salt Lake City and is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center serving the intermountain region.

UNLV SEEKS PARTICIPANTS FOR EXERCISE BOOT CAMP

The Department of Physical Therapy at UNLV, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway, is seeking participants for a research study that involves an eight-week exercise boot camp.

Participants must be 50 or older and have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The study will examine the effects of exercise for individuals with the disease. Participants will be monitored for up to six months after the boot camp, which includes a free balance assessment, heart rate monitor, physical assessment, bone density test and $50 for completing the program.

Camps are planned three to four times with 90-minute sessions at two locations. Enrollment is planned for Sept. 25-27.

ENTERTAINER TO PERFORM SEPT. 25 AT SOLUTIONS RECOVERY WELLNESS CAMPUS

Comedian and entertainer Mark Lundholm is scheduled to perform his show, “Addicted,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 25 at Solutions Recovery Wellness Campus, 2975 S. Rainbow Blvd.

SUN CITY SUMMERLIN PLANS ANNUAL FALL HEALTH FAIR SEPT. 27

Sun City Summerlin plans to host its 22nd annual fall health fair and flu shot clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 27 at the Desert Vista Community Center, 10360 Sun City Blvd. If not covered by insurance, the cost for flu shots is $25 and $85 for pneumonia shots. Attendees are asked to bring insurance cards and a picture ID. Medicare Part B (primary insurance) and Medicare Advantage (must say PFFS on card) will be accepted for both vaccines. For flu shot only, Aetna, Senior Dimensions, HPN, Sierra, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare and Health Plan of Nevada will be accepted.

HEALTHY KIDS FESTIVAL SLATED FOR SEPT. 27 AT PARADISE PARK

In celebration of Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, the third annual Healthy Kids Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Paradise Park, 4775 McLeod Drive. The free festival is sponsored by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s All 4 Kids Program and Clark County Parks and Recreation Department.

NONPROFIT PLANS GROUNDBREAKING FOR DOWNTOWN CLINIC

Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada, a local nonprofit providing free health care services to the uninsured in Southern Nevada, plans to host a groundbreaking ceremony at 9 a.m. Oct. 3 for its second clinic location in downtown Las Vegas at 1240 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. The volunteer-run clinic will allow the nonprofit to quadruple its patient base and expand its services to include dental, vision and mental health care.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly and Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow are scheduled to attend.

FERTILITY CENTER TO GIVE AWAY FREE IVF CYCLE

Red Rock Fertility plans to host Fertilivine, an event to benefit families facing the challenges of infertility, at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at View Wine Bar & Kitchen in the Market LV at Tivoli Village, 420 S. Rampart Blvd. The event will include wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.

FREE BALANCE SCREENINGS PLANNED FOR SENIORS

Physical therapists and other health care personnel plan to offer free balance screenings for senior citizens through Nevada Goes Falls Free. Free balance training classes will be offered to anyone whose balance is below recommended levels. People with severe balance problems will be referred to a physician.

The Fibromyalgia Friends Support Group of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit based in Henderson, has announced the initiation of a teen program to educate and provide support for middle, high school and college-age teenagers with fibromyalgia.

WALK WITH A DOC PLANNED FOR THIRD THURSDAYS AT LORENZI PARK

University Medical Center plans to host free Walk With A Doc events at 7 a.m. the third Thursday of each month at Lorenzi Park, 3333 W. Washington Ave. Participants are asked to meet at the tennis courts.

The program emphasizes 150 minutes of exercise as a way to become healthier and for people to be better informed about their health. Each walk will open with a three- to five-minute health talk followed by a 30- to 45-minute walk. During the walk, a physician who is the featured speaker will answer general health questions.
